Audiovisual: Remando no Tempo (Paddling in time)

2006

Documentary made for the project “Santa Catarina on Stage”, from the television channel RBS/TV, in 2006. The director was Marco Stroisch, the production by Exato Segundo and co-production by Núcleomídia Comunicação. With over 140 years of history, rowing competitions were the first organized sporting event in Florianópolis. In 1861, Sociedade de Regatas de Desterro (Desterro Regattas Society), a club founded on the island, promoted the first non-official competition. The sailing clubs, which still exist today, were created in the first decades of the nineteenth century: Riachuelo, Martinelli and Aldo Luz. In the ’40s and ’50s, rowing was the most popular sport in Florianópolis, surpassing even soccer. Regattas were attended by a large audience, who watched the competition along the dock, or from Rita Maria square, Hoepcke pier, and even aboard ships like the Carl Hoepcke ship.
